Hawaii Nei contest drop-off is Oct. 19
The Hawaii Nei Art Contest is sponsored by the Three Mountain Alliance, Natural Area Reserves System, and Wailoa Arts and Cultural Center. Its purpose is to increase awareness of, and appreciation for, native species found on Hawaii Island. Art will be displayed Nov. 1 to 29 at Wailoa Arts and Cultural Center.
Artists in West Hawaii may drop off their artwork from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 19 at Donkey Mill Art Center in Holualoa. Entry forms must be completed prior to submission. See “How to enter” at hawaiineiartcontest.org. This year’s specialty categories focus on the palila in the mamane-naio high-elevation forest habitat and dryland forest plants. An abstract category has been added this year.
Several field trips are planned leading up to the contest. Participants hike through ecosystems in search of the unique plants and animals of Hawaii. Registration is necessary. The $10 fee goes to the Hawaii Nei Art Contest. Each participant receives $5 off one Hawaii Nei entry.
